You might try turning off the automatic phishing filter in IE7. It blocks a lot of services that draw information from your system (such as AIM Triton searching for your network settings through Internet Explorer. Triton will not connect to the servers if the phishing filter is activated, as of 10/19/2006). To solve this problem, click:

Tools %26gt; Phishing Filter %26gt; Turn off Automatic Phishing Filter

Although I am unsure about your first problem with redirection, I am assuming this comes from a high internet security setting. Try:

Tools %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; 'Security' Tab %26gt; Medium High for the setting.

On IE 7 is there a way to have the Links Bar visible without have the actual word Links Visible?

No... you should mess with the registry of IE..

its not at all recommended and higlly risky and it may end up crashing your os..

just leave it as is

My IE is acting up...?

Since i re-register for norton is been acting up-i have IE 7 and when i put in a url and press search it doesnt do anything and then when i hit the x to close it , it gets stuck and sometimes freezes, i had firefox long time ago and the guy at the comp store said firefox causes alot of viruses, so i wont dl that again, but does anyone know whats up? help..

My IE is acting up...?uninstall internet explorer

If your going to get a virus from a site, its most likely going to be with Internet Explorer then Firefox.

My IE is acting up...?microsoft.com internet explorer

WOW THE GUY AT THE COMPUTER STORE IS A LIAR.

Everybody knows firefox is far more secure the I.E.

It's a proven fact.
Ugh... you've been talking to idiots. FireFox does not cause any problems other than huge memory leaks and occasional security holes.

I would get rid of Norton and use Nod32 if you desire an antivirus. Then, reinstall IE, make sure that you configure the zones properly, and then remove execute permission from the local settings folder for your user account. Congrats, IE is secure.

I would also run housecall.trendmicro.com and system file checker.

To run system file checker, Start%26gt;%26gt;run, type in "sfc /scannow" and hit enter.
Norton Internet security is probably causing the issue. Norton does that! Try this:

On the IE toolbar go to Tools | Manage Add-ons | Enable and Disable Add-ons, find the reference to Norton Internet Security, or anything Norton. Click it on then go down and disable the feature(s). Then shut down IE and restart. See if that helps. Then call Norton and tell them that their software is broken! :-)
Go the microsoft website and re-download I%26gt;E 7 if it still doesn't work try these popular browsers

www.mozilla.com

www.opera.com
Agree that Firefox is more secure that IE. Norton is also known to slow your computer down. Three free solutions:

Firefox

Zone Alarm (firewall)

AVG (Antivirus)

I would remove (uninstall) Norton and replace it with the above.
your best bet is to get rid of norton and firefox doesn`t cause viruses. it blocks viruses. spysweeper is a good program to have on your computer and it works well with norton.

Installing IE link/connection on guest log in(desktop)?

How do I go about installing a link and/or connection to the internet thru the guest login???

I(the admin) have the IE icon on my login and I'm able to access the internet thru my (password protected)login. But, my grand daugther needs her own login/internet connection on the 'guest' login for the time being.

So, how should I go about setting her up w/ an internet connection???

Thanks in advance!

I think the either the whole windows or just internet explorer is corrupt. You will need to properly uninstall it, restart and then install new IE. One more reason may be...the system is infected with Spyware or malware. Download some quality antispyware from http://www.pcsecurityworld.com/antispywa... and run a check. You can try resetting IE to its default settings and see if that resolves the issue. Better would be to stop using IE and switching to either Firefox or to IE based browsers. Both are available at http://www.pcsecurityworld.com main page.

Clicking on desktop IE icon occasionally won't open browser window but appears to run. also can't shut down.microsoft office 2007 internet explorer

Did you run your anti-virus and anti-spy in Safe Mode? Click F8 continually while booting to get Safe Mode. If you see Windows flag shut off and reboot as you have gone too far. When you get to Safe Mode lay mouse on generic icons until you see the anti software and run it. Slow but worth it. Good luck. Also, try Firefox instead of IE.

Firstly tell your system admin he is a clot. If he must insist in forcing you to use IE at least make him upgrade to IE7 where you will at least get tabs and little extra sercurity.

Need help on IE..Firefox and Opera at workplace?windows movie maker internet explorer

Download firefox portable from portableapps.com and save it to a jump drive. Then you can run firefox off the jump drive on any computer at work.
Talk to your sysadmin. He's probably been cracking down on security, and therefore disallowing some programs.
Of course, a more feasible idea here is that using Policies, your System Admin has changed settings for everyone's Internet Explorer to use a proxy server. This is common in the corporate world.

Now in Internet Explorer, Go to Tools -%26gt; Internet Options -%26gt; Connections -%26gt; LAN Settings

If you see proxy settings there, simply make a note of them. Both Opera and Firefox allow you to enter in Proxy settings. Once you do this, you will have no issues browsing the web.

I personally recommend not installing IE7 as of yet. Release candidates can always do harm to your computer.

Firefox uses a Windows process inside what we call a "library". That DLL file, which can be needed by Firefox, may have been altered and made unreadable by your installation of IE7.

I would recommend uninstalling IE7 and re-installing Firefox.

Removing IEDefender, or IE Defender is a difficult process, but it can be done. IEDefender made its way into your computer without your permission and now it's damaging your machine. This rogue anti-spyware program will launch on every Windows startup and download more malware into your computer. IEDefender displays constant pop-ups and system alerts that mislead you into purcahsing the full version of the program. Do NOT trust IEDefender. I suggest you remove IEDefender immediately. Here are the instructions to get rid of IEDefender.

If i download IE 7 does it automatically become the default browser?....see details?microsoft.com internet explorer

IE 7 will replace IE 6. Just like any other software. the old one will be replaced by newer version.
Why upgrade to IE7 if your not going to use it?
Yeah, once you install IE7 it overwrites IE6. You can try FireFox and change the settings to keep IE6 the default browser.
IE6 will be replaced with IE7... I personally like IE7 better...
YES, IE7 does take over the IE6 and NO you cannot have both browsers on the same computer at the same time. However, The IE7 is an update of the EI6 and if you don't like IE7 you can always go back to the IE6 by removing the IE7. You can do that by going to add/remove programs on your control panel.

Hope this helps.
Please, please upgrade your browser to one that renders code correctly. Us website designers are sick of having to break our sites' code just so that people sitll using IE6 can get away without upgrading.

I'd recommend FireFox over IE7, but either way, please, please don't stay on IE6. The longer you use it, the longer it'll take before we're able to use the cool stuff like 24-bit PNG transparency that all the other browsers support.
No, when you install IE7, it basically upgrades 6 to 7, and you will no longer have access to v.6.x unless you uninstall v.7.x. If you require further assistance, please contact us through our website at www.whitewaterit.com

IE/ Firefox Browser closes randomly, computer shuts down randomly?

There are several problems that I'll address here:

1. My internet browsers close randomly/unexpectedly. I thought it might be a problem with IE so I switched to Firefox, but it stills happens. It happens more frequently when the computer first starts up, but every 3 minutes or so the browser closes.

2. The computer itself restarts randomly. I've changed my power settings but it still does it. Is there any fix or any suggested power settings? Whenever the computer comes back on I get a message "Windows has recovered from a serious error."

3. I can't change font sizes in Microsoft Works Word Processor or the program will freeze.

I've googled all of the problems and I've found people asking for help but no one knows a solution. I really hope you guys can help!

I've also ran Avast! virus scan, Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware, Ace Utilities, etc, and nothing comes up, so I doubt it's any form of spyware and if it is a virus it's a very elusive one.

IE Spell ON College Application?

IE Spell ON College Application?internet explorer download

This question is really a computer program question, not a Words %26amp; Wordplay one, and I suspect you'll get better answers if you ask it there. I use Firefox (and I recommend you switch too), so I wouldn't know. I suspect, though, that it's an option within IE Spell that can be toggled on and off. If it's anything like spellcheck in Word, though, you can right click on the underlined word and you'll get a popup menu giving you options (including 'ignore.') You could probably manually do this to all the proper names that are flagged, solving the problem this one time anyway.

IE Spell ON College Application?windows xp internet explorer

You need to check your spell checker options/preferences. It appears to have an option of not printing errors which is checked (or printing errors which is not checked), either way, you need to change this option (or add the names to your dictionary file).

take your flashdrive to work. Plug it in and then locate the favorites folder under document and setting. Then copy them all into you flashdrive. Take it home and plug it back in and then go back in under documents and settings and find your home favorites. IE and Firefox stop working after 10 minutes. If the HTML Port (80) is getting choked, what do I do?

I've had this problem on one computer. Messengers and other programs tied to the internet will continue to work, but Firefox and IE are unable to browse. I just get "page cannot be displayed". Happens 10 minutes after reboot, and is only cured by reboot (reconnecting does not fix it).

I've looked for every source of the problem and have been searching for a fix for 2 days. I've heard that port 80 can get manipulated by malware, making it impossible to use it for browsing. I can still ping with ipconfig and netstat says that I have successfully connected even though I cannot view in the browser.

How do I see what is using ports?

Try SpyBot instead: (free open source anti-spyware)

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/downl...

Also, check your disk space. Are you running low on disk space (even if on only 1 of your drives)? It could be the cache for browsing is getting clogged due to reduced drive space. A way to test is when you are having the problem, go clear your browsing cache. If it works after that and you can load the page, then its definitely disk space. If so, you'd need to add drive space to your PC or clear out some stuff from your drives or relocate your cache to a different drive which has more space.

While you're not clicking on anything and the page is not loading, look at your network connection to the Internet. Is it blinking? If it is, then there's traffic happening when there shouldn't be. If that's the case, its probably spyware or worse, you've been hijacked.

Also, I can connect to AIM, Xfire, and online games, but I can't connect to Windows Live Messenger (which really sucks because I use WLM more.) My connection is DSL, but I'm not quite sure of the specifics -probably dial up.

I suppose your using IE 7... IE is full of bugs

if you have DSL then that is not dial up...

Don't listen to Carling.

Do you have the latest IE? IE7?

IE7 is the latest version, and in my opinion the best. I find it does tabbed browsing and RSS feeds the best. And it is not 'buggy' as Carling said. I use it all the time, and I really don't face an issue. Unlike Firefox, where I always have tons of issues.

Or maybe you're taking up too much space on your hard drive, and it's slowing things down. You need to get rid of either Maxthon or Firefox. I think they're bogging the system down, to run better.

And I know how you feel about WLM. I use that all the time too. Just make sure you're really connected, and that all ports are open to work with.

IE browser window?

Besides the fact I'm sure I have adware/spyware on my computer, for some reason, whenever I open IE, it goes from my default page (I use "blank") it then switches to this addy http://iewarning.com/ Anyone know why, or what I can do to fix it??? What's the best anti-virus protect you can buy?

IE browser window?windows 2000

AVG Free anti-virus, and the updated version of Windows Defender is the best combo to combat viruses and spyware. Run those two applications and it should get rid of a good deal of it. The really good spyware is tough to clean off. If you are still having trouble with spyware after you run those, I would recommend a trustable computer technician. They would definitely be able to clean your PC for you. Good luck.

Reinstall Internet Explorer or get the new Internet Explorer 7. It's no longer in beta version and it is so mich better than IE6.

Dont use IE7

dont contribute the monopoly and the bad quality products

Download Firefox 2. Faster Browsing, more security, simply better.

http://mozilla.com
I recommend Norton Antivirus. Also, you can't stop the http://iewarning.com/ from popping up until you remove the adware. Norton Antivirus has spam blocking, e--mail scanning, spyware, adware, virus, worm, and trojan horse blockng and removal. You should have a virus protection program at ALL times, and keep it updated regularly.

IE 7 error when downloading?

Here is the deal...Microsoft is pretty much usless to me as they're no help at all. Everytime I go to DL something off Microsofts website I get to the DL page I choose the appropiate connection and then a window pops up saying that the IE page can not be found it can either be a misspelling, connection problem or the page is not working. So I diagnose the connection and it tells me that there are no problems. This has been going on for months.

I opperate with Windows XP pro, IE7 and I know I have all the appropriate hardware to upgrade to MS office 2007. I have cleared the cache, checked my firewalls and also checked my security settings.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I need this software for my classes.

You can download IE 6 on Microsoft website. But if you already have Firefox i would use it. I used IE for a long time, but about 6 months ago i started using Firefox. In my experience it is faster, safer and overall easier to use.

Hope this Helps

IE doesn't show the page while Mozilla does?

I have been looking for an answer for a week to this problem. I have a web page (html) that is showing great with Mozilla but the page is blank with IE. I tried deleting the Cache like some people told me, and it didn't help. Anyone has any suggestions? I would appreicate any reply.

I cannot give the address of the website because it is internal page on the intranet.

Thank you

IE doesn't show the page while Mozilla does?windows 95

Lol I hope I'm right. It would make my day.

I'm guessing the web developer got ticked off with coding for IE, so wrote in a script making the page appear blank to anyone using IE. This isn't unheard of. Last month, there was a revolution on Digg.com. A bunch(in the thousands) of web developers refused to code for IE because it doesn't folow the web standards.

I support anyone against IE.

IE doesn't show the page while Mozilla does?download ie internet explorer

Well a simple test to see if it is a problem with your IE browser or something on the server side is to see if you can view it on another PCs IE browser (or have a coworker do it). If you experience the same results on multiple computers the problem is likely due to browser incompatibility on the server side. If other computers can view it with IE but yours can't, then you'll need to find the difference between your IE and others.

** Edit **

Oh, you can also try viewing the source of the page (even though blank) and see if maybe it is a sent to you but just not rendering properly.
The problem maybe the version of IE you are using. Some intranet pages were developed for use with IE 6, if you are using IE 7 then it may not show up. You should check you version of IE. Also check your web settings. Open IE go to tools-%26gt; programs there should be button for resetting the options -%26gt; then in the advanced tab you should see a similar button-%26gt; reset them both -%26gt; close IE and open it back up. If that still doesn't work I would reinstall whatever version of IE you have. Good luck
Most likely ur IE brower cannot show websites but in mozilla they can i hve the same problem i recommend doing a diagonistic or something like that on testing websitre viewing on both browers or updating your IE browser to 7 highest one yet
Hey there,

There is no problem with IE, howeverl you need to check if your internal site supports IEor not. In addition if you are using IE7 then its just the security features of IE7 that might not allow you to view the web-site, however; you can always add the internal site in your trustred web-site. As you might be aware and people in this community might have answered you that IE 7 uses "Extended Validation SSL Certificates" which might conflict with your site.

Hence, in order to resolve your problem, you need to first contact your IT dept and check if you can open the same site on any other computer in the same domain/workgroup.

I would like to see your issue resolved and you using IE in future.

When I click the button of "Print" or "Print Preview", or click Ctrl an P in IE... it doesn't print the page. (Althogh it prints it in Firefox.) What's the problem and how can it be fixed.

Hmm.. Weird.

You can try repairing your IE through the Control Panel - Add and Remove programs. It should be part of the Windows Components.

IE does not seem to be recognizing the Adobe flash plug-in..?

If I un-install the Adobe flash plug-in and then re-install..all is well until I re-boot, then IE (neither 6 nor 7) see the plug in. No such problems for FireFox.

IE does not seem to be recognizing the Adobe flash plug-in..?microsoft support

Trouble with Windows installation

If you have trouble with installation of Flash Player, follow the below troubleshooting steps. If one step does not correct the problem, move onto the next step. For optimal troubleshooting, after each step, restart your machine, and test Flash Player before moving onto the next step.

1. Restart. In some situations, Windows or Internet Explorer needs to be restarted in order to complete an update. Restart your machine, and test Flash Player before moving to Step 2.

2. Reinstall. Refer to the steps in Try this first: How to fix almost all Flash Player issues.

3. Repair the browser. The next most common cause of problems is an error with the browser. Often a browser upgrade or any changes to the browser may require a browser repair and reinstallation of Flash Player.

To repair Internet Explorer: Open Start%26gt;Control Panel%26gt;Add/Remove Programs. Choose the browser from the list of programs, click Change/Remove, and choose the Repair option. Restart after repairing the browser, and follow steps in Try this first: How to fix almost all Flash Player issues to reinstall Flash Player again. If Internet Explorer does not appear on the Add/Remove list, Repair is not an option, and you should move onto the next step.

Other browsers: Follow the above steps to see if your browser has a "Repair" option, and if it does, repair it. If your browser (such as Netscape) does not have a Repair option, you must reinstall the browser in order to repair it. Try Steps 4 through 7 first before moving onto Step 8, to reinstall the browser.

4. Security level: Your Internet Explorer security level may be set to High or a custom level which does not allow viewing of ActiveX controls.

To view your Security level, from within Internet Explorer, choose Tools%26gt;Internet Options, and in the Security tab, choose Internet.

Though your browser security settings should be chosen by you or your system administrator, the 'Medium: Default Level' will allow you to view Flash content. For any Custom Level, ensure that both "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" are not Disabled. (Enable or Prompt will work).

5. Permissions: Your permissions may not allow you to install ActiveX controls or plug-ins. If this is a possibility, refer to Permissions can affect installing Adobe Flash Player for more information.

6. Update your video drivers. This step is especially important if you experience a freeze or crash when installing or using Flash Player. Right-click on your Desktop and choose Properties, Settings, Advanced, and Adapter to view the manufacturer's name. Refer to the manufacturer's web site to download drivers or for assistance with installing the latest drivers.

7. Reinstall the browser. Download and install the latest version from your browser manufacturer's Web site. Download and install the latest Flash Player from the Flash Player Download Center.

IE Defender on my computer, how to remove?windows vista home premium internet explorer

Have you tried the manual removal from this site:

http://www.precisesecurity.com/blogs/200...

It just requires you to delete some related files.
The smitfraudfix is being advised by most forums now to remove IEDefender. Follow that up with Superantispyware to remove any infections that the smitfraudfix doesn't get and you'll be in good shape..

Smitfraudfix: http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.p...

Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/
IEDefender is an extremely dangerous rogue software created by programmers from Russia. It may be installed manually (from www.iedefender.com) or using security holes. Once the IEDefender is installed, it will start showing fake security messages that your system is in danger and will trick you into buying its full version. IEDefender may steal your secret information (passwords, credit card numbers, PayPal accounts). IEDefenders work may damage Windows registry and cause system slowdowns and crashes. It may be difficult to remove IEDefender manually because it loads on every Windows startup and has an ability to renew itself if you try to remove it.

here are manual removal instructions:
How to remove IE Defender (Removal Instructions)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t...
IEDefender is a rogue anti-spyware application. IEDefender hijacks your web browser and redirects you to IE Defender鈥檚 homepage. IEDefender also pop-ups fake security alerts to deceive you! IEDefender uses all means necessary to mislead you and trick you into downloading the full version of the program to "solve" your spyware problems. You have to be careful and NOT trust IEDefender, even though it seems legitimate. My recommendations is that you remove IEDefender immediately before you become its next victim.
i just got this virus a couple days ago! i had a heck of time trying to find something to remove it. try SUPERAntiSpyware, it caught IE defender on my system and removed it for me and its free. i also tried the removal instructions from one of those forum websites but they were complicated and i didn't get the virus out. try superantispyware, it works and its really easy, you just wait for it to scan your system.

ad-ware works fine too. i used that too. ad-ware finds a lot of tracking cookies also that supersntispyware sometimes misses, but if IE defender is the only bothering you, superantispyware works really well.
You can try this free removal process: http://www.pchubs.com/blogs/ie-defender-...
IE Defender a rogue antispyware application that is starting to infect a lot of users. This particular infection is harder to remove. Also IE Defender installed in your Internet Explorer browser that hijacks searches you input into the Google and Yahoo search engines. When infected your Internet Explorer opens Google or Yahoo and make search request you will see a hijacked search result listing.

For remove IE Defender spyware, make follow the steps outlined in the topic linked below http://www.myantispyware.com/2007/11/10/...
This link details the solution that worked for me:

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?...

Link reads:

We've got infected by this IE Defender crap and I've read many Temporary Solutions or Total Removals, Just read here to see both solutions.

They are either listed as IR9V0_QCX.dll OR bDivX.dll

*Solution One

Go to Internet Explorer

Go to Manage Add Ons

Find bDivX.dll(In My Case IntelVideo - IR9V0_QCX.dll)

Disable It

OR (Still Solution One)

Go to Internet Explorer

Go to Internet Options %26gt;%26gt; Advance Tab

Reset Browser to disable ALL ADD-ONs

Solution Two

Find bDivX.dll(In my case IR9V0_QCX.dll) In the Windows 32 folder

Once found IR9V0_QCX.dll OR bDivX.dll %26gt;%26gt; Delete It

Now in Solution Two, the Spyware/Virus is now REMOVED and it did not damage anything BECAUSE the IE Defender Spyware is actually a Spyware Plug In for Internet Explorer

* = Only a Temporary Solution, will not TOTALLY remove the IE Defender Spyware from your computer

Hope this helps,

IE 7 Help.?

Anyone else notice that IE 7 takes forever to open? It sometimes takes a long time for pages to open as well. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Is there an update available to fix it?

IE 7 Help.?default browser

There is an update: it's called FireFox :) Seriously, IE7 is quite bloated, I don't know of any hotfixes. I would suggest removing any extraneous plugins and toolbars, such as the ubiquitous Google Toolbar. Also, try clearing your cache and settings its max size to around 100 - 200 MB.

Might do a quick spyware or virus check.

I cant stand IE-7?

A techie installed it without asking.

After spending a lot of bucks getting the PC repaired I'm not willing to try to remove it right now.

How do I get rid of those miserable popups that are hitting me all the time?

I have my firewall on, also using AVG but can't get rid of bothersome stuff like Red Orbit.com and MSN and Messenger when my home page is Yahoo.

This is never happened before.I had more control with IE-6.

You're better off going with Firefox or Opera. Both have built-in popup blockers. Your firewall and AVG won't do anything to stop popups. However, if you really want IE, you can just get the Google Toolbar, which includes a popup blocker.

It sounds like you have a BHO (Browser Help Object) which is a parasite that attaches itself to you browser. Download HijackThis and run a scan. Check the BHO section for this redorbit.com entry and put a check mark against it and then click Fix Items.

You've got malware or spyware. Get a copy of "Ad-Aware" and "Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy." Both are available free of charge; a Google search will give you download sites. Run both programs, as each spots things that the other doesn't. Download "AVG Antivirus," which also has a free edition. Run it. After all that, you more than likely will have fixed the problem.

Internet Explorer 7, whatever its vices or virtues, does not give you all these popups by itself.
To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP

Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."

Click "Add or Remove Programs."

Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.

Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove."

Uninstall that, restart your PC and you are on IE6
your problem has nothing to do with the browser, you have spuware on your pc, thats why the pop-ups .

IE6 does not format CSS properly. To accomodate for IE6, use these tags in the head part of your document and change the CSS to make it work.

%26lt;!--[if IE 6]%26gt;

.insertCSStoFixHere {blah:true;}

%26lt;![endif]--%26gt;

This way, the browser reads these tags and if IE 6, it uses them instead of your normal CSS.

IE shortcuts have changed file ext. Why?

I recently got a BT Home Hub. Suddenly my internet pages were all opening with BT Yahoo browser which I've managed to get rid of but I can't find the way to stop the change in saving to desktop, so that when I save an IE link to my desktop it saves as a mht file instead of html and does not update. When I open the link the address starts off "C:\Documents and Settings" instead of "http://www". It's really annoying - does anyone know how I can reinstate the html version?

Many thanks.
